Elders share history and advice. In the roles guide, apprentices also look after elders' ticks and bedding, so the rank gives other players something to do.

How do you get Elder?
Retire a warrior in a scene, or introduce an elder when the camp has room for one. There is no retirement button in the public controls.

Talk at camp. Send apprentices on chores instead of leading the patrol yourself.
